Julia Alvarezoffical website of the author
Julia Alvarez is the well-known author of A Wedding in Haiti & In The Time of the Butterflies, & many other beautiful, insightful books. I began working with Julia (a pleasure & a privilege!) when she had the beginnings of a lovely website which I've been expanding, improving &, most often, simply updating since 2003. |
Rawsome CreationsRaw Food Demos, Classes, Consultations & Sales
A work in progress! RawsomeCreations.com is one of my favorite kind of projects: a collaboration. I'm working with my dad on the website -- with plenty of help from raw chef Brenda & her friends. |

Richard BlancoPoetry of Place, Home, and Identity
Richard Blanco ("made in Cuba, assembled in Spain, and imported to the United States") is a poet & I would say an artist as well. He designed his website & I put it together. He made all the big decisions & trusted me with the little ones. It is so much fun to work with an artist on his site -- I think it shows in the work. You can read or listen to his poems at Richard-Blanco.com. |
Shelley Martin GalleryPaper Sculpture
Working with Shelley Martin to show off her wildly creative paper sculptures was a hoot! We started with a photo session & ended up with a whole new art form inher web gallery. For me the paper sculptures added a dimension instead of losing one when we made them into photographs. With no distracting background, something pure shows the amount of heart she puts in her art. |

Blushin' Roulettesofficial band website
Singers and songwriters Angela Rose & Kate Stone of the Blushin' Roulettes are very dear friends of mine here on the Mendocino Coast. It has been a delight to design BlushinRoulettes.com, starting with the photographs, from scratch. We've got big plans for its growth but I think the songs say it all. |
Mendocino MassageMendocino Day Spa
Will work for massage! Mendocino-Massage.com was a fun project & an excellent trade for massage in a lovely Mendocino day spa. You will notice some similarities between this site & the one above. I frequently borrow ideas from other sites I have made, fitting them into the look & feel of a current project. "Cheating" like that saves time & money to spend on perfecting each site's individual pieces. |

Boistfort Valley FarmCertified Organic Produce
A website that's been around for several years, BoistfortValleyFarm.com is a joint effort with Heidi Peroni -- when she's not too busy harvesting those delicious organic veggies! I traded the original design of the website (based on their brochure) for a season of the farm's CSA deliveries -- & if I still lived up in Olympia, Washington, I'd still be trading... mmmn! |
Academic Coachinghelping students develop confidence and independence
This simple & inexpensive website went up quickly & easily. We're working on sprucing it up a little, but the website covers the basics in the meantime. I enjoy the chance to work with a friend to build her web presence & her business. If you are in the DC area, Academic Coaching can help your students learn to work smarter, not harder! |

Whittlethe woodshop for imaginations of all sizes
Some of my Olympia friends asked me to help them create a very simple website for their new shop Whittle: the woodshop for imaginations of all sizes. I also made them a facebook page, where the fans started adding up right away. |
ACERA LLC Environmental ConsultingEnvironmental Regulatory Assistance
www.ACERAEnvironmentalConsulting.com ACERA Biologists Mike and Heather Layes are dedicated to providing the highest quality services and report products to our clients in a timely manner, at an affordable price. More friends of mine! Mike wanted a simple, professional, pretty website. In no time, at little cost, we had created a website featuring some of his photographs from the field in Washington -- which made me homesick for my time on those rivers! |

Bethany Bonner HomesBoston and Norfolk County
My high school friend Bethany Bonner wanted to be able to have more control over how her home listings looked, and to offer more for her clients. Using the listings supplied for her we created a more personal site. |
Michael ElkanReading the Wood
It's always fun to work with a website that already has a good design & plenty of material. My uncle's website MichaelElkan.com (designed by my dad), was ready for some new photographs & a quick make-over behind the scenes to optimize navigation & to make it easier to update & maintain. I didn't need to monkey with the design, so several of the improvements I made may be invisible to many visitors -- in this case, a job done well. |

Heartsong Farm Healing HerbsHerbalist and Apple Grower, Nancy and Michael Phillips
Michael Phillips is another author I met through my good friend the publisher Stephen Morris. HerbsAndApples.com was the first website I created, as a collaborative effort with Michael. We've grown quite a website together & it remains a favorite project of mine (o but they're all my favorites!). |
Holistic Orchardist NetworkGrow Organic Apples
Michael Phillips was making such good connections through his apple pages at HerbsAndApples.com, that he thought he'd branch out to make a more community-minded website. We used the same design style, updated with everything we've learned in the last 5 years, & already this young website is taking on a life of its own! |

Peggy PayneLiterary Fiction for the New Age
Peggy Payne had a site already & wanted it to perform better for her readers. I made the simple content changes necessary & put a small amount of time into improving the site design for ease of use (by visitors & search engines) -- sometimes it doesn't take much. |
Casa Milagros InteriorsTransforming life spaces in Santa Fe
The corporate look for Casa Milagros Interiors was designed by a graphic designer, who sent me an image of the website home page, as well as the matching business cards, brochures & stationary. I really enjoyed making those images into this vibrant, easy-to-use website. It has changed owners since then & what strikes me now is how little it needs to keep running! |

Accessible Nature Travela travel guide
www.AccessibleNatureTravel.com Focusing on the Northern Mendocino Coast, Accessible Nature Travel is a travel guide for folks with wheelchairs, walkers, canes, or strollers. Rather, that's what it will be -- you can watch this one grow! |
Caspar CommunityNorthern California Coast (my hometown)
I always learn new tricks when I work with my dad Michael Potts as part of the Caspar Institute web team. He spent many years creating the Caspar Community website before I began to share the work for our hometown website. I am currently giving even the oldest pages of this giant, wonderful website the same centralized, easy-to-use navigation, while preserving the website's rich history. |

PaintSmith CompanySeattle Painters
Seattle painter extraordinaire, Justin Smith is another close friend & working on the PaintSmith website is creative fun as well. When Justin asked me to join the web team, the website had been designed for Yakima, Washington, & needed updating to show the company's expanded Seattle base. I gave it a quick make-over so that the website looks & works better as is, while a graphic designer creates a whole new look which I will translate into the same style of clean, easy-to-use pages. |

Heather WoodFreelance Writer in Santa Fe, New Mexico
Heather Wood, another old friend & joy to work with, spends some of her time as a freelance writer, frequently publishing articles about her hometown in the Santa Fe New Mexican. We archived her articles at HouseMiracles.com (she is the original owner & designer), but when she sold the business, we moved the pages to HeatherWoodFreelance.com. |
Wise Food WaysJessica Prentice, author and chef
Jessica Prentice, a talented chef & author in the San Francisco Bay Area, started her website with her New Moon Newsletters, then began to market her teaching & cooking skills as Wise Food Ways. Since then, she's coined a new word, Locavores, helping to give voice to the growing crowds of local eaters, written Full Moon Feast, & gotten too busy for her own website (I think that's a good thing -- there's always later). |

Rosemarie CereghinoVoice Instructor, Coach, Soprano, Accompanist
Rosemarie Cereghino wanted a website that would represent her offerings without too great an expense. I created the website look from an image of her business card, trying a few different colour schemes to give her a choice, then we plugged in the content & she had money left in her budget for updates. |
Lost Nation BuildersNew Hampshire
A very minimal -- & inexpensive! -- website, LostNationBuilders.com answers the important questions (for now) so that builder Michael Phillips can pour all his effort into the Holistic Orchardist Network website. |

Sienna Moonfire Designsmy personal playground
I used to spend a lot of time learning web design tricks & sharing my stories at SiennaMoonfire.com, but now my personal website stands as a record of its times. Sometimes I do add a new recipe & I still collect links. If I really had the time to spare for my own work, I would focus for a week on revamping this website -- but the truth is that it doesn't really need it. It's simple, rich & (I hope) easy to navigate. I've learned heaps since coding its pages (or since the last time I updated them!), but my basic principle remains the same: |
thank you, Viggomy personal art gallery
Inspired by a book created by Viggo Mortensen, sharing his very personal art, I decided it was high time I tried sharing my own art. I created this website as another learning exercise & playground for new tricks, like my slide show. I was learning to use a marvelous language called php, so this website was my cutting edge in 2004, heh. As they will, my skills have improved & multiplied since its creation (I remain enamored with php, which I combine with css for an easy-to-change look of the page, good clean html, & a MySQL database where it's needed), but when I get the time to spend on this one, I'll be adding photos, not messing about in the background (valuable work though it is). |
